Children's has been named to the 100 Most Wired list for 2007, sponsored by Hospital and Health Networks magazine to promote the effective use of information technology in achieving clinical and operational excellence.
The list is based on the magazine's Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study which asked hospitals to report on how they use information technology to address five key areas: safety and quality; customer service; business processes; workforce; and public health and safety. More than 500 healthcare systems representing 1,284 hospitals throughout the United States responded to the survey. Organizations with the highest survey scores were named to the 100 Most Wired list.
"Children's is pleased to be recognized as one of the 100 Most Wired hospitals on three occasions in the past five years. This illustrates we are well-established in the pediatric informatics industry as a leading pediatric facility," said Pamela Arora, vice president and chief information officer.
"Although this award recognizes our exemplary use of information technology, it is also an organizational success to be celebrated by all our employees. They use the technology to provide our patients with safe and quality care, which is hugely satisfying."
Using bar-coded administration of medications and clinician documentation in the electronic health record have helped Children's receive notice among pediatric institutions.
The award will be given out during a special presentation on Monday, July 23, at the American Hospital Association Leadership Summit in San Diego.
Other Texas organizations that made the 100 Most Wired list include Texas Health Resources in Arlington; the EMTC Regional Healthcare System in Tyler; and Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and the Methodist Hospital System, both in Houston.
